You look tired, my friend. May I offer you a cup of tea? And perhaps a sporting game of Pai Sho? Come, now. A moment of quiet is good for the soul.
It is strange, isn't it, how the universe brings people together? I certainly never expected to escape from my jail cell in the Fire Nation to an Inn at . . . well, wherever we are. What? The jail cell? Oh, I am sure you have more interesting stories than I do.
Yes, perhaps I have gone mad. But I doubt it. I know myself well enough to know that my madness would look quite different from this. And you would be someone else entirely.
Now, how about that tea?
---
Iroh appears to be a short, fat, elderly Asian man with a nearly perpetual atmosphere of good cheer.
Some of this is true. He is rather elderly, and the cheer is real. But he's not from Asia, and wouldn't know what it is if you ask him.
Iroh is a master firebender, and has the ability to produce and manipulate fire through the motions of a martial art similar to Northern Shaolin style Kung-fu. His mastery of the art is at a level rarely attained even by many of the other great masters, if only because of his novel method of incorporating alternate philosophies and techniques into his style.
He also has the ability to see spirits and recognize those who are spiritually enhanced.
As for the tea belly, it's mostly padding at this point. He's been buffing up in prison. Not much else to do, in between convincing the warden that he's crazy and sneaking out for a quick round of leave-the-nephew-cryptic-messages-and-steal-the-priceless-artifact-from-the-prison every now and then.
He has a tendancy to play all of this down, and project the image of a simple old man who wanders in to the Inn every now and then for a bit of light socializing and a cup of tea.
Other than that, he's pretty good at giving advice. And great at making tea.
Iroh is a character from the TV show Avatar: The Last Airbender, and is the property of Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante Dimartino. He does not belong to me and no money is being made from this journal.
